This was the homepage/welcome screen of my (really) old site. Kind of corny if I do say so myself. But, at least I’m at a place today where I realize that it was corny.

The idea here was to provide a one-shot view of the types of things you might find at this site via an intro paragraph, popular tags, and the ten most recent entries. I’m the first to admit that this site didn’t really represent much. It was more of an experiment. Looking back, I can’t believe I created images for each rounded corner (and JPEGs at that!). That’s ridiculous.

This was my very first Ruby on Rails application. I moved my first PHP site (which was at rpheath.com) over to this one, and decided to try out Rails rather than rebuild it in PHP. I don’t have much PHP experience, but I wasn’t all that fond of it.

I don’t know what sort of mood I was in where I wanted a site that was sort of vague like it had hidden meaning or something (almost more company-like). I remember listing out about 20 potential domain names and then narrowing that list down based on availability.

The colors are interesting, too. The design before this one (the PHP site) was a bit bland so I guess I tried the other end of the spectrum. Like any designer (now with experience) would think, this site is awful! But it has made its way into the portfolio for nostalgic purposes.
