This is the view for an individual competency. It provides a competency description that would allow an employee to see what exactly he/she was responsible for (in terms of the company).

This also shows what the levels (0-5) mean for the competency at hand. These are called performance descriptors. In this screenshot it shows the defaults, but these can be (and should be) changed provided that the user has the appropriate permissions. Clicking the red “edit” link for any of the descriptors will go into inline editing mode using Ajax.

All of the associated models are listed in the yellow box, but only within the scope of those that have been assigned to the logged in user.

The Competency Management Service (CMS) was built to supplement the Network Learning Alliance. It’s a tool that allows a company to measure its performance by modeling the competencies of its employees.

Each company can build models that can be assigned to its employees. A model is really just a group of competencies that accurately reflects the very job being modeled. Each competency can be reviewed by multiple managers. Reviews are really the heart of the system.

The service suggests NLA training based on the outcome of those reviews. It has seamless integration with NLA via API’s on both ends, and all of the company management and authentication happens external to the CMS. It was a fun and challenging project to work on.
