M.C. Escher (official website) is my favorite artist. His work is extremely inspiring and often times seemingly impossible. I have a few books on his work and the symmetry and perspectives he is able to produce are amazing to say the least.

I drew this with white chalk on black construction paper. It’s probably about 22”x18” in size. I drew this from an image no larger than a business card. I loved it, and wanted to recreate it much larger.

I used a squared off grid to mimic the exactness of M.C. Escher’s version. It’s amazing what can result if you dedicate yourself to a single, tiny square at a time, neglecting the rest of the picture. It’s an interesting technique, but I still prefer free-hand over anything else. This is the only time I’ve tried the grid approach.

If you weren’t able to realize, this is a water drop on a leaf. It’s easier to see from afar, but once you know what it is, it becomes obvious.

For reference, here is M.C. Escher’s Water Drop (the real one). The puddle is another favorite of mine. And the three glass balls. Amazing.
